A recent study shows that cows can recognize their friends on photographs
and are able to determine familiar faces of other cows. Seven cows were shown two
photographs. One photo showed a cow from their social group and the other photo
showed an unfamiliar cow. Five out of the seven cows sniffed, licked, and
touched the familiar photograph at a faster rate and stayed near it longer than
they did with the unfamiliar photograph. Just like our human selves, they can
distinguish faces and recognize their fellow friends.
A recent study shows that pigs have complex personalities and are very
similar to dogs and chimpanzees. Besides having a high IQ, pigs are also able
to fetch things, understand human direction, and recognize their friends. Why
do we regard killing dogs as inhumane and cruel? Why do we regard killing pigs
as a part of the natural order?A recent study shows that the zebrafish can show emotions when stressed and that they are conscious creatures. Known as “emotional fever,” this was thought to have evolved only in mammals, birds, and reptiles but is expressed by fish as well.
A recent study shows that consuming calcium is not associated with bone strength.
The researchers found that an excessive amount of calcium can actually lead to
heart disease and kidney stones. A Berkeley study also found a direct link
between Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) to human breast cancer. The study found
that 59% of women with breast cancer tested positive for the BLV infection. The
BLV is present in 100% of factory farmed milk.
A research study finds that eating
more plant-based foods like fruits and vegetables such as squash, citrus, sweet
potatoes, and other dark leafy greens while breastfeeding children can boost
the carotenoid content of a woman’s breast milk. Carotenoids are plant pigments
that play a major key in human development and are rich sources of vitamin A,
which is essential for our eyes and immune health.
